THE EVENT BENEFITS
Durham's transition age youth via non-profit organization LIFE Skills Foundation. They are improving lives of young adults who have aged out of the foster care system or are at risk of homelessness and exploitation. LIFE Skills provides them with housing, independent living skills classes, counseling and wraparound supports to help them thrive as independent adults. LIFE Skills is starting a young adult resource center called The HUB where youth can meet immediate needs like showers, clothing, food and safety as well as connect with mental health services and work on securing permanent employment and housing. There is nothing like The HUB in Durham, and through Sausagefest, we can help LIFE Skills fund this space. Could it be any tastier to do good?

About the Organizer

The Rickhouse, Southern Harvest and Life Skills Foundation

The Rickhouse and Southern Harvest Restaurant Group are throwing a food festival on Sun. January 14th called SausageFest (go ahead and chuckle :) We are ecstatic to also be partnering with the non-profit organization Life Skills Foundation. They are improving lives of young adults who have aged out of the foster care system, or are at risk of homelessness and incarceration. LSF helps these kids get housing, the medical care they need, teach life skills and are working towards building a facility called The Hub where they can take showers, get toiletries and clothing, get mental health services, and work on securing permanent employment and housing. There is nothing like The Hub in Durham and through Sausagefest, we can help LSF fund this space. Through events such as PickleFest and Txakoli Fest at The Rickhouse, we have been able to partner with non-profits to hold incredible food focused events for our Epicurean community. These events have attracted hundreds of people each year and raised thousands of dollars, while introducing our community to local restaurants and farmers - giving them an opportunity to sell products and reach a greater audience acutely interested in the artisan food being featured.
